About Us
December 2006 saw the opening of Burke's Music, in a disused space above Castlemaine's best café, Saff's. After much scrubbing and scraping, we managed to come up with something presentable, and, with a little help from Melbourne bands Trouble in the Kitchen and Kate & Ruth, put on a great opening show! Of course, this happened to coincide with 45 degree heat and a smoke haze worthy of a Turkish bar. Even so, many people braved the heat and sore throats to help us celebrate.
Since then, we have been steadily expanding our range of great CDs, with many independent and hard to find CDs, great blues and jazz, alternative rock, and, of course, celtic music.
With a family full of musicians and music lovers, it's no wonder that we've started a family business, although you'll only find Tom at the shop, as the rest of the family is busy playing, recording and organising folk festivals (keep an eye out for a new one popping up in south-east NSW very soon).
